5 favorite vegan cookbooks

2 Jan

20121231-234747.jpg I’ve checked out many cookbooks from the library in the past several months. A bunch got renewed until the librarian mafia came after me; a few now have a home on my bookshelves.

I’m drawn to cookbooks with color photos next to most or all of the recipes. If I can’t see it, I don’t get inspired. Here are some that I’ve found useful and inspiring this year:

Chloe’s kitchen: 125 easy, delicious recipes for making the food you love the vegan way by Chloe Coscarelli

The kind diet: a simple guide to feeling great, losing weight, and saving the planet by Alicia Silverstone

Pure Vegan: 70 Recipe for Beautiful Meals and Clean Living by Joseph Shuldiner

Peas and thank you: Simple meatless meals the whole family will love by Sarah Matheny

Vegan cooking for carnivores: Over 125 recipes so tasty you won’t miss the meat by Roberto Martin

I only have one vegan cookbook on my shelf, The Joy of Vegan Baking. I could definitely use one with lots of entrées though!

Thanks for the tip! I went ahead put that one on my list of books to check out from the library. I bought some vital wheat gluten yesterday b/c I’m planning to try the yeast bread recipe from “Pure Vegan” later this month. We’ll see how it goes!

Good luck! I bought some a while ago with the intent to make my own seitan, but I never quite got around to it… It took a bit less time to buy it from the store!

I know! One of the cookbooks listed here (I think it was Alicia Silverstone’s) made it seem like whipping up your own seitan is no big deal…but I’m not convinced. And I don’t eat so much seitan that I’d need a whole vat of it.

I’ve seen step-by-step picture instructions that make it seem easy, but… Knowing me, I’d make a mess of things anyway!
